PROCEDURE TEXT
Definition
Procedure text is text that contains
commands or instructions for doing something. In other words, procedure text is
made to give an idea of how something is done through successive steps.
Procedure text is very easy to recognize.
Usually begins with the word "How to ...". For example, “How to speak
English Fluently and Confidently” , “How to use Linking Verbs”, and many more.
Characteristic
features
a.
Using the simple present tense
b.
Using imperative sentences (command sentences). Example:
add two spoons, cook with low heat, blend the spices, etc.
c.
Use action verbs. Example: add, put, turn.
d.
Using numbers. Example: first, second, third. Using
conjunctions (connecting words). Example: next, then, while.
e.
Using adverbs (adverbs) to clarify the stages that are
passed. Example: correctly, carefully, slowly, for 2 minutes, etc.
Types
1.
Procedure text that describes how to operate/use
something. For example, how to use a camera, how to use a rice cooker.
2.
Procedure text that provides instructions in carrying out
certain activities. For example, how to play guitar, how to make a brownie.
3.
Procedure text related to tips for living life. For
example, how to be successful in life, how to make yourself happy.
Structure
1.
Goal/Aim: contains the intent and purpose of the related
procedure text.
2.
Materials: contains the materials needed to perform the
steps of a procedure text.
3.
Steps: a list of sequential steps to complete the
procedure text stages.
4.
Result: the result of the steps that have been carried
out.
Example
How to
Connect a Wireless Mouse
1. First, plug in your mouse’s receiver to
your computer’s USB port. Then, the mouse driver will automatically be
installed to detect the wireless mouse.
2. Second, make sure that your mouse has
batteries or is charged. To do this, flip the mouse over and remove the battery
compartment cover.
3. Third, turn on your mouse. Usually the
on/off switch is on the back of the mouse.
4. Finally, your wireless mouse is ready to
use.

Practice 2:
1)
First, you will read silently to understand the procedure texts below. Make
sure that you know the meaning of every word. If you find some words that you
do not understand their meaning yet. Then, consult the dictionary. (Baca dalam hati

Second, read each text (text 1 and 2) loudly as if you are giving the
instructions and take a note on your book. If possible, record your voice.
(Baca dengan nyaring seolah- olah Kalian sedang memberikan instruksi dan jika memungkinkan
rekamlah suara kalian).
Text 1
“How to Insert Sim Card Cellphone”
Cellphone
is a modern communication device which connects one to the others by voice,
written message and data. However, this device cannot work until the SIM card
is inserted. When inserting the SIM Card to cellphone, make sure that the cellphone
has been switched off and follow the directions bellow :
1.
First
of all, press the locking catch and slide the cover then lift it off the phone.
2.
After
that, push two catches in the opposite directions and remove the battery.
3.
Next,
slide the SIM card carefully into the slot and make sure that the golden
connect arson are facing to the connector of the phone.
4.
Then,
put the battery and align it until snaps into its place.
5. Finally, insert the two catches of the back cover corresponding slot in the phone and slide the cover forward button of the phone until locks into place. Don’t forget to switch on the cellphone. Wait until it is ready to use.

How to Cook Rice In A Rice Cooker

First,
rinse a cup of rice in cold water. Rub the rice softly under the running water.
Do not rub the rice too long, because it will lose the nutrients. Wash the rice
once again. Then drain the water from the rice.

Next, add
a cup of water. If you cook rice using an electronic rice cooker, pay attention
to the water ratio. The rice and the water ratio is usually 1 part rice to 1
part water.

Then, place
the cooking pot in the rice cooker properly. Cover the pot. Select the cooking
button right after the light on the rice cook cook turns.

Finally,
when the rice has been cooked and is resilent , flip through the rice very
gently using a rice spatula.

- In order to be the best student in your school, you must first be optimistic about everything. In addition, you must be very disciplined and well-behaved. You must be able to balance everything.
- Second, a best student must study hard. This is the primary task of a student. To study hard and succeed. Remember, if you do not take the initiative, you will accomplish nothing. Ask questions in class if you do not understand something.
- Next, let’s go over some study habits. When studying for a test, make sure that you first have all of the proper materials including books, pencils, paper, calculator, etc. Underline the words that you do not understand. In addition, try highlighting some of the themes mentioned in the book. Ask your parents for tutoring. Based on some surveys, students who come in for tutoring tend to do better in class as well as improve their grades.
- Lastly, you will be on your way in becoming the best student! Remember to never give up and make a commitment to work your best.
